The Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel has officially credited Noni Madueke with Arsenal’s second goal against Leeds United, overturning an initial own-goal ruling.
Noni Madueke’s persistence has paid off after the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Panel officially awarded him Arsenal’s second goal in their 4-0 rout of Leeds United.
Originally recorded as a Karl Darlow own goal, the decision was overturned after a review confirmed Madueke’s inswinging corner was goal-bound.
The ruling marks a significant personal milestone for the winger, representing his first Premier League goal since joining the Gunners from Chelsea.
The decision followed an public plea from Madueke, who insisted his strike was on target before Darlow’s intervention.
Having already assisted Martin Zubimendi’s opener, the 23-year-old’s starring role at Elland Road was further solidified by the panel’s confirmation.
Speaking to BBC Sport prior to the reversal, Madueke questioned the initial ruling:
“How can that be an own goal? It was going on target, if the keeper’s not in the goal then it goes in, so, I don’t understand how that’s an own goal. Premier League, please take a look at that and fix it for me.”
