Nottingham Forest demand VAR audio after controversial City defeat

Nottingham Forest have requested VAR audio from PGMOL to investigate officiating decisions during their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, with manager Sean Dyche claiming a missed foul led to the winning goal.

Nottingham Forest have formally requested access to VAR audio from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following their 2-1 loss to Manchester City.

The club is considering a formal complaint regarding several controversial decisions made by referee Rob Jones during the match at the City Ground.

Forest officials are specifically seeking the recorded conversations between the on-pitch referee and the video assistant team regarding key incidents that shaped the final result.

Head coach Sean Dyche expressed significant frustration, particularly over Rayan Cherki’s 83rd-minute winner, which he believes should have been disallowed for a foul on Morgan Gibbs-White.

Dyche also argued that City defender Ruben Dias escaped a clear second yellow card earlier in the half.

Criticizing the lack of intervention, Dyche remarked, “Such an easy game to referee, in my opinion, such an easy decision for VAR,” while claiming the officials directly affected the game’s outcome.

The goal stood after a VAR check, leaving Forest just five points above the relegation zone.

Dyche insisted that Gibbs-White was prevented from blocking the winning shot due to a push, stating, “Whichever way you look at it, it’s a foul.”

While former official Darren Cann defended the “referee’s call,” Dyche remains perplexed by the technology’s failure to act, noting, “I’m a big fan of VAR – I can’t work out how you can’t get that right.”
