Chelsea-bound Emegha suspended by Strasbourg over disciplinary issue

Emanuel Emegha, captain of sister club Strasbourg, has been suspended by the Ligue 1 side for one match over concerns regarding his conduct, including comments he made publicly that did not align with the club’s expectations.

Incoming Chelsea striker Emanuel Emegha has been suspended by his current club, Strasbourg, for the Ligue 1 match against Toulouse on Saturday, December 6.

Emegha, who is the captain of the Blues’ sister club in France, was disciplined for “failing to uphold their ‘values, expectations and rules’,” according to a report from The Standard.

The Dutch international, who is set to join Chelsea next summer, was disciplined for his conduct, which included comments made during the November international break after earning his first senior call-up for the Netherlands.

It is understood that remarks Emegha made in an interview, admitting he initially thought Strasbourg was located in Germany rather than France when he joined, “are said to have not gone down well with the club’s supporters.”

A club statement released on the matter read: “Racing Club Strasbourg Alsace has decided to suspend Emanuel Emegha for his next Ligue 1 match, this Saturday, December 6 in Toulouse.”

It continued: “This decision was made following the player’s recent non-compliance with the club’s values, expectations and rules.”

Despite the disciplinary action, the statement reaffirmed his importance:

“Emmanuel remains an important member of our team, who has always given everything for the club on the field. He will be reintegrated into the group after this match. No further comments will be made.”

Emegha has been in fine form this season, scoring his seventh goal in 11 games last week during a Conference League match against Crystal Palace.
