Man United hold talks with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United have held talks with former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding a potential return as caretaker manager to lead the club through the remainder of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emerged as a leading candidate for a caretaker manager role at Manchester United following the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

The Norwegian, who managed the club for nearly three years between 2018 and 2021, held talks with United officials on Tuesday.

The club is currently seeking an interim solution to stabilize the first team until the end of the season before conducting a comprehensive search for a permanent successor.

While Darren Fletcher prepares to lead the team for Wednesday’s match against Burnley, the hierarchy is considering a longer-term interim appointment.

Solskjaer is reportedly open to the move, maintaining a home in Cheshire and a deep affinity for his former club.

Other names in the frame include Ruud van Nistelrooy, but Solskjaer’s history of achieving top-four finishes and his legendary status among the fanbase make him a compelling choice for the INEOS leadership.

Interim boss Darren Fletcher expressed his commitment to the role during Tuesday’s press conference, stating, “Hopefully it looks like a Manchester United team that represents a bit of me, a team that fans can be proud of and I can be proud of.”

Solskjaer, who has been out of work since leaving Besiktas in August, would represent a return to familiar territory as United attempts to recover from their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season.
