Reigning Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé has called for a return to collective unity at Paris Saint-Germain after the Ligue 1 leaders suffered a stunning 3-1 loss to managerless Rennes.
Ousmane Dembélé issued a scathing assessment of Paris Saint-Germain’s mentality following their seven-match winning streak being snapped by Rennes on Friday.
The forward, who scored PSG’s lone goal, claimed the squad has lost the selflessness that defined their previous successful campaign.
“Last season, we put the club, the badge, Paris Saint-Germain first before thinking about ourselves,” Dembélé remarked, noting that the team must rediscover that spirit to secure future silverware.
The defeat leaves PSG’s top spot in jeopardy, with Lens now positioned to leapfrog the champions this weekend.
Dembélé warned that a lack of cohesion would prove fatal to the club’s ambitions across all competitions. “If everyone plays for themselves on the pitch, it’s not going to work, we’re not going to win the titles we want,” he stated.
He urged his teammates to show more desire, adding, “we need to play for Paris Saint-Germain to be able to win matches.”
