Paramount secures UK Champions League rights from 2027

Paramount+ is set to become the main UK broadcaster for the UEFA Champions League from 2027, significantly altering the landscape of live European football coverage for fans.

Paramount Skydance has secured the majority of the UEFA Champions League live broadcast rights for the UK, and a substantial package in Germany, covering the four-season cycle from 2027–28 to 2030–31.

Paramount Skydance is poised to become the main UK broadcaster for the UEFA Champions League starting in 2027, winning the auction for most of the live rights in a massive shake-up of European club football coverage.

According to a report from Broadband TV News, the deal is reported to be worth in excess of £1 billion over the four-season cycle, running from 2027–28 to 2030–31.

The agreement means Paramount+ will carry every Champions League match live in the UK, with the notable exception of the first-pick Tuesday night game. That particular fixture, along with other major European markets, has been retained by Amazon Prime Video.

Furthermore, Paramount has also been selected as the preferred bidder for a substantial Champions League package in Germany.

The rights auction also confirmed that TNT Sports’ decade-long tenure as the main home for European competitions in the UK is ending, as Sky Sports secured all UEFA Europa League and Conference League matches.

For UK viewers, the acquisitions will further fragment live football coverage. From 2027, fans seeking full access to domestic and European club football will require subscriptions spanning Sky Sports, TNT Sports, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount+.

The move expands Paramount’s existing strategy, which already sees CBS and Paramount+ hold English-language rights to UEFA competitions in the United States through 2030.
