Pep Guardiola has dismissed rumors of an early departure from Manchester City, insisting he will honor his contract despite former assistant Enzo Maresca’s high-profile exit from Chelsea.
Pep Guardiola has firmly denied rumors of an early exit from Manchester City, reaffirming his commitment to see out his contract through 2027.
The statement follows the sudden departure of Enzo Maresca from Chelsea on New Year’s Day.
Reports suggest Maresca, a former assistant to Guardiola, left Stamford Bridge after informing the club of talks with City regarding a future role, potentially as a successor to the legendary Spanish manager.
Despite the speculation, Guardiola emphasized his loyalty to the club that supported him through a difficult winless run last season.
Addressing the hierarchy’s trust, he noted that he still has time left on his current deal.
“I have a contract. I said a thousand million times. It’s 10 years here, I will leave one day but I have a contract,” Guardiola told reporters, adding that he remains happy and eager to fight for more titles.
The managerial uncertainty at Chelsea comes just days before City host the London club on Sunday.
Guardiola expressed surprise at Chelsea’s decision to part with Maresca, calling him an “incredible manager.”
With Chelsea currently under interim coach Calum McFarlane, Guardiola is focusing on his own squad’s performance as they chase league leaders Arsenal.
“I have one more year’s contract. I like to be here, so we will see, you will see,” he concluded.
