Phil Foden brace sinks Dortmund in City win as Haaland makes UCL history

Manchester City inflicted Borussia Dortmund’s first Champions League defeat of the season with a commanding 4-1 win at the Etihad, featuring a brace from Phil Foden and a goal from Erling Haaland.

According to BULINEWS reporting, Manchester City asserted their dominance in the Champions League group stage, routing Borussia Dortmund 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, handing the German side their first defeat of the 2025/26 European campaign.

The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute when Phil Foden, given too much latitude on the edge of the area, slotted a low shot past Gregor Kobel.

Just a minute later, City doubled their lead as Erling Haaland, a constant threat to his former club, powered home a finish after receiving a low cross from Jeremy Doku in the back of the box.

Dortmund offered little attacking threat in the first half but were denied a glimmer of hope just before the break when Karim Adeyemi’s shot was deflected by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City appeared to seal the result early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Foden netted his second goal of the evening, receiving a pass and placing the ball into the corner to make it 3-0.

Dortmund managed a consolation goal in the 72nd minute, with Waldemar Anton smashing a near-post finish after a cross from Julian Ryerson.

Despite a late press from the visitors, it was too late to mount a comeback. City finalized the scoreline at 4-1 when Rayan Cherki found the net late on, sealing a crucial three points for Pep Guardiola’s side. The result leaves Dortmund on seven points from four Champions League matches.
