Chelsea face a monumental task in the Champions League return leg after falling to a 5–2 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, as critical goalkeeping mistakes overshadowed standout displays from Enzo Fernandez and Pedro Neto.
Liam Rosenior’s Chelsea side suffered a bruising first-leg loss at the Parc des Princes, largely undone by a catastrophic second-half collapse.
While the Blues showed resilience to equalize twice through Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez, a series of defensive lapses and a high-profile error from Filip Jorgensen allowed the Parisian giants to pull away.
Late strikes from Vitinha and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have now left Chelsea needing a historic comeback at Stamford Bridge next week.
Chelsea Player Ratings
Filip Jorgensen — 3
A nightmare outing for the summer signing, who was preferred over Robert Sanchez for this elite clash. Despite an early save onto the woodwork, his distribution was erratic and directly led to Vitinha’s crucial goal. He appeared slow to react to Kvaratskhelia’s long-range effort, capping a performance he will be desperate to forget.
Malo Gusto — 8
One of the few bright spots for the visitors, the Frenchman looked inspired back in his homeland. He kept Chelsea in the contest with a well-taken equalizer in the first half and showed great tenacity defensively while coping with the explosive Bradley Barcola.
Wesley Fofana — 5
A difficult evening for the center-back against his fellow countrymen. He struggled to contain the movement of Ousmane Dembele and was unfortunate to see a strike deflect off him for PSG’s second goal, but his overall positioning lacked its usual sharpness.
Trevoh Chalobah — 5
Chalobah’s aggressive approach backfired during the buildup to PSG’s second goal. By overcommitting in an attempt to win the ball high up the pitch, he left a significant gap in the defensive line that the hosts exploited ruthlessly.
Marc Cucurella — 6
While showing signs of rustiness, the Spaniard provided essential energy on the left flank. He was often found in advanced positions, helping Chelsea transition out of pressure, though he struggled to provide a consistent final ball.
Reece James — 6
Operating in a hybrid role, the captain brought much-needed physical presence to the center of the pitch. His passing was typically reliable, helping the Blues maintain some semblance of control during their better spells in the first half.
Moises Caicedo — 6
The midfielder performed his defensive duties with quiet efficiency, covering a vast amount of ground to track PSG’s dynamic runners. He was instrumental in disrupting the hosts’ rhythm before the game slipped away in the second half.
Cole Palmer — 7
A constant livewire on the right wing, Palmer played with the confidence that has defined his season. He drew multiple fouls and looked the most likely to create something from nothing, keeping the PSG backline on high alert throughout his stay on the pitch.
Enzo Fernandez — 8
A masterful performance in possession that deserved a better team result. Fernandez orchestrated Chelsea’s play, providing the assist for Gusto’s goal with a brilliant long-range pass before firing home a superb top-corner strike of his own to briefly level the score at 2–2.
Pedro Neto — 8
Neto’s blistering pace and directness caused Nuno Mendes significant problems all evening. His standout moment came in the second half, where he displayed immense composure and vision to bypass the defense and tee up Fernandez for Chelsea’s second goal.
Joao Pedro — 6
The Brazilian led the line with intelligence, using his strength to hold up play and bring others into the game. However, he lacked a clinical edge in the final third, missing a clear-headed chance in the first half that could have changed the complexion of the match.
