Liverpool’s inconsistent campaign continued as they were held to a lackluster 1-1 draw by a struggling Tottenham side.
Despite an early lead and a dazzling full debut from a teenage prodigy, the Reds lacked the clinical edge to kill the game, eventually punished by a last-minute equalizer.
The atmosphere at Anfield turned sour at the final whistle, with pressure mounting on Arne Slot following a string of unconvincing results.
Liverpool Player Ratings
Alisson – 7
Returning from the treatment room, the Brazilian shot-stopper proved his immense value. He produced a sharp save to deny Souza and frustrated Richarlison on multiple occasions. While he delighted the Kop with a cheeky dummy, he was ultimately powerless to stop the late leveler. His presence remains the backbone of this side.
Dominik Szoboszlai – 7
Deployed in a hybrid right-back role, the Hungarian was once again the source of Liverpool’s breakthrough. He curled in his fourth direct free-kick of the season to open the scoring. Though his creative influence waned as fatigue set in during the second half, he remains one of the few consistent performers in the squad.
Joe Gomez – 5
It was a night to forget for the defender, who looked shaky throughout the contest. With Joel Matip watching from the stands, Gomez appeared hesitant, and his poor positioning was directly responsible for allowing Richarlison the space to equalize. His lack of confidence seemed to unsettle the entire backline.
Virgil van Dijk – 7
The captain was a tower of strength in the air, winning the majority of his duels and organizing the defense as best he could. While he was solid individually, he cut a frustrated figure as the team’s collective structure crumbled around him late in the game. He looks like a player burdened by an excessive workload.
Andy Robertson – 6
A mixed bag for the Scotsman, who provided his usual grit but lacked the marauding quality of his prime years. While he managed the game well for large periods, his failure to close down the cross for the Tottenham goal was a costly lapse. He remains reliable but less explosive than before.
Ryan Gravenberch – 6
The midfielder showed flashes of his technical ability and looked more proactive than in previous weeks. However, as Spurs grew into the game, he struggled to maintain control of the central zones. Questions remain over whether the current tactical setup leaves him too isolated in defensive transitions.
Alexis Mac Allister – 5
Despite winning the free-kick that led to the opening goal, the Argentine struggled to impose himself. His passing lacked its usual bite, and he appeared to run out of steam as the match progressed. His lack of mobility is becoming a glaring issue in a midfield that is frequently bypassed.
Florian Wirtz – 6
Operating in the hole, the German youngster showed glimpses of his high price-tag talent with some intelligent movement and slick link-up play. He combined well with the youth players but was often on the periphery of the action before being substituted as Slot looked to change the dynamic.
Jeremie Frimpong – 6
Frimpong utilized his blistering pace to act as a constant outlet on the wing, yet his end product was frequently predictable. He was kept relatively quiet by Djed Spence in individual battles, though he did manage to create one significant opening for Ngumoha with a driven delivery.
Rio Ngumoha – 8 (Man of the Match)
The 17-year-old was a revelation on his first Premier League start. Fearless and technically gifted, he was comfortably Liverpool’s most potent attacking threat, consistently beating his man with ease. He earned a well-deserved standing ovation, having provided the only real spark of excitement for the home fans.
Cody Gakpo – 7
Leading the line, Gakpo put in a selfless shift characterized by hard work and high pressing. He was denied a goal by the woodwork and showed great persistence, even when service was limited. While he lacked a clinical finish today, his overall contribution was one of the few positives.
