Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has been handed a four-match suspension following a straight red card against Manchester United, ruling him out of Tuesday’s game against Newcastle.
Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero will miss Tuesday’s Premier League encounter against Newcastle United following a red card for violent conduct.
During Spurs’ 2-0 loss to Manchester United, Romero was dismissed for a high challenge on Casemiro. Because it was his second sending-off this season, league rules have extended his automatic suspension to a four-match ban, sidelining him for several crucial fixtures.
Spurs manager Thomas Frank defended his captain’s intent while acknowledging the severity of the loss. Frank stated: “The red card is a red card. I’ve watched it back five times. Cuti tried to go for the ball. You play with passion and aggression and there’s a fine line.”
The Argentinian has since apologized to his teammates as Tottenham prepares for the North London derby without him.
