Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has launched a dedicated campaign, or “offensive,” to promote Achraf Hakimi’s candidacy for the African Ballon d’Or, according to a report from ICI Paris Île-de-France.
The award, bestowed by the continent’s governing body (CAF), recognizes the best African player over the course of the season.
The club’s effort stems from the Moroccan international’s spectacular contribution to what the report terms a “historic treble season” for Les Parisiens, which notably included the club’s maiden UEFA Champions League title.
The right-back was a vital component across all competitions, underscoring his value to the squad.
Hakimi, 26, appeared in 55 matches across all competitions, demonstrating significant attacking output with 11 goals and 16 assists—an exceptional return for a defender.
PSG’s commitment to securing the CAF award reflects their belief that the Moroccan captain deserves the recognition, especially given his central role in their continental success.
If Hakimi were to win the prestigious African award, he would join Ousmane Dembélé as the second player to be celebrated with a ‘Ballon d’Or’ title while at the French capital club, following Dembélé’s receipt of the France Football version of the award.
The planned campaign aims to formally showcase Hakimi’s statistics, influence, and overall merit to the voting body, ensuring his accomplishments during the treble-winning season are duly recognized in the race for the continent’s top individual prize.
