Rafael Leao pulls out of Portugal squad to focus on injury recovery

AC Milan star Rafael Leao has been officially excused from international duty by the Portuguese Football Federation to continue rehabilitating a persistent adductor injury at Milanello during the break.

The Portuguese Football Federation has officially excused Rafael Leao from upcoming friendlies against Mexico and the United States.

The Milan striker, who missed last Friday’s clash with Torino, will remain in Italy to undergo daily monitoring by Massimiliano Allegri’s medical staff.

Leao has struggled with groin discomfort since December, and the club hopes this period of rest will ensure his fitness for the April 6 trip to Napoli.

Leao’s absence follows a flare-up of an adductor injury sustained earlier this season. By avoiding travel to Lisbon for medical examinations, he can focus entirely on recovery ahead of the Easter Monday fixture.

Despite his importance to the national team, the federation decided to prioritize his long-term health, noting that “the Milan striker will not even have to travel to Lisbon for his medical examinations.”
