Danny Rohl has withdrawn from the Rangers job race, leaving Kevin Muscat as the clear favourite to take over at Ibrox.
Danny Rohl has withdrawn from the race to become Rangers’ next manager after holding positive talks with the club’s hierarchy, talkSPORT reports. The German coach decided the timing was not right to pursue the role, leaving Australian Kevin Muscat as the clear favourite to replace the sacked Russell Martin.
Muscat, currently in charge of Chinese Super League leaders Shanghai Port, is expected to complete the season before taking over at Ibrox, possibly prompting interim management under Neil McCann.
Rohl’s exit marks another setback for Rangers, who were earlier close to reappointing Steven Gerrard. The former Liverpool captain, however, withdrew due to concerns over timing and the club’s sporting structure.
Other names reportedly considered include Slaven Bilic and Hearts boss Derek McInnes, while ex-Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has surprisingly emerged as an option.
