Rashford explains his Manchester United departure

Marcus Rashford has revealed why he left Manchester United for Barcelona, citing the need for a change after feeling stagnant at his boyhood club.

Marcus Rashford has shed light on his summer transfer to Barcelona, admitting he felt he had reached a crossroads at Manchester United after spending his entire career at Old Trafford.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with ESPN, the forward offered a candid view of his decision to leave his boyhood club on loan.

“People forget this, but 24 years, 23 years of my life was with Manchester United. So sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me and yeah, I’m enjoying everything,” Rashford stated.

The England international is enjoying his “new environment” and his early impact in Spain, where he has netted five times in 12 appearances, reflects a player rediscovering his form after being “exiled” under United boss Ruben Amorim.

Rashford revealed that a move to the Catalan giants was a long time coming. “It’s not the first time I spoke with Barcelona about potentially coming here, but for whatever reasons it didn’t happen in the past and now is my opportunity to make it happen.”

He added that the timing felt right, saying: “I just believe that things happen when they’re supposed to happen.”

With Barcelona holding an option to buy, Rashford seems fully committed to his new life, confirming he wishes to stay permanently:

“Oh yeah, for sure. I’m enjoying this football club and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player is an honour.”
