Real Madrid have ruled out signing Ibrahima Konate, whose Liverpool future is now in question following a disastrous performance and scathing criticism from club legends Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard.
Ibrahima Konaté’s future at Liverpool has become “slightly more clear” as the defender enters the final months of his contract, according to a report from the Daily Star.
The 26-year-old Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, following in the footsteps of former teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold.
However, David Ornstein of The Athletic clarified Real Madrid’s position, stating on X:
“Real Madrid considered Ibrahima Konate but inform Liverpool they have no interest in signing France int’l.” Ornstein added that Konaté’s “contract situation could still go either way” at Anfield.
The clarification follows a difficult performance for Konaté, who started in the Reds’ “humiliating defeat to PSV” on Wednesday evening, where he faced strong criticism for his role in the Dutch side’s third goal.
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher publicly vented his frustration, saying in an off-air rant:
“Oh my god, Konate. Oh my god, Konate. Watch Konate here, oh my god! I’ve f****** had enough of them, honest to god. That Konate, I mean that’s a sackable offence for the manager, keeping f****** picking him. He should be sacked for that.”
The report also noted that former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard was furious with the team’s performance, highlighting that Konaté’s substitution was “huge, that sends a story.”
