Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García won two honours, including the top goalscorer award, at the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) gala following a highly successful campaign with Castilla last season.
According to a report from Madrid Universal, Real Madrid forward Gonzalo García was recognized for his impressive performance with the club’s reserve side, Castilla, at the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) gala in Madrid on Monday night.
The 21-year-old forward secured two prestigious distinctions at the ceremony’s fourth edition.
García, who is now part of the Real Madrid first-team setup, received the award for Best Player of Group 2 in the Primera Federacion. He was also awarded the Enrique Castro “Quini” Trophy as the league’s top goalscorer.
The Real Madrid academy product had an outstanding season, scoring 25 goals, a feat that made him the player with the most goals in a single season since the creation of the Primera Federacion.
This total also saw him match Mariano Diaz’s record for the highest number of goals scored in a regular season for Real Madrid Castilla in the 21st century.
Although García was unable to attend the event as he is currently away with the Spain U-21 national team, he sent a video message expressing his gratitude.
“As you know, I’m with the under-21 national team and can’t be at the gala. I wanted to thank everyone, the AFE (Spanish Footballers’ Association), and my teammates who voted for me.
It’s an honour, and I want to remember all my teammates from last year at Castilla and the coaches. Congratulations to all the award winners,” he stated in the video.
The young Spaniard has found minutes hard to come by in the Real Madrid first team this season under manager Xabi Alonso, leading to speculation about his immediate future.
