Régis Le Bris praised Dan Ballard’s performance following his return to the Sunderland starting XI, a strategic move that sparked a crucial 2-0 victory over Wolves and showcased the team’s valuable defensive flexibility.
Sunderland Head Coach Régis Le Bris has explained his key selection decision after the team’s vital 2-0 Premier League win against Wolves, confirming Dan Ballard “deserved to play” and return to the starting line-up.
Ballard’s recall necessitated a defensive reshuffle, moving Nordi Mukiele to right-back and Trai Hume to the left flank, a change that directly led to Mukiele’s opening goal. Le Bris was highly satisfied with the result and the defensive balance.
Reflecting on the centre-back’s performance, Le Bris stated: “Ballard deserved to play, and showed good qualities, especially against a strong striker like Strand Larsen. The balance was positive, and I think this back four showed good qualities.”
Le Bris also noted the importance of the team’s adaptability, adding: “That kind of defensive flexibility is important.” With multiple options now available in defence, the manager believes this versatility will be crucial in the league.
