Spanish official Jesús Gil Manzano is facing a potential one-week suspension from officiating duties following his controversial performance during the recent Real Sociedad versus Barcelona fixture.
Under a newly established accountability policy introduced by the RFEF and La Liga, referees who are deemed to have delivered sub-standard performances are subject to being temporarily “rested” to maintain officiating integrity across the league.
This disciplinary measure follows growing scrutiny over specific decisions made during the clash, marking a significant shift in how the Spanish governing bodies manage and penalize refereeing errors in high-stakes matches.
