Liverpool forward Alexander Isak is ready for increased minutes with Sweden after returning from injury, while young Reds Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni made impactful performances for England under-19s.
Liverpool forward Alexander Isak is declared fit to play more than a cameo role in Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against Slovenia, according to coach Graham Potter, while young Reds Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni impressed in a 7-0 win for England U19s against Latvia.
According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool has received encouraging news regarding the fitness of forward Alexander Isak, with Sweden boss Graham Potter stating the player is ready for increased action ahead of the Reds’ match against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
Isak made his first appearance since being substituted at half-time during Liverpool’s 5-1 win over Frankfurt on October 22, returning as a 62nd-minute substitute in Sweden’s 4-1 defeat to Switzerland on Saturday night.
Potter confirmed the plan for the Swiss game was always limited, stating: “The plan was for Isak to play 30 minutes. It wasn’t an easy position in the game to get into. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him on Tuesday.
The plan is for him to play more against Slovenia.” Although Sweden are bottom of their World Cup qualifying group, they are assured a place in the playoffs via their Nations League performance.
Elsewhere, young Liverpool duo Rio Ngumoha and Trey Nyoni fared much better on the international stage, with both starting in England under-19s’ convincing 7-0 victory over Latvia.
Ngumoha, who is yet to start a Premier League game despite scoring on his debut, made an instant impact by netting England’s opening goal after just 81 seconds and completed the full 90 minutes.
The article also noted a defeat for Andy Robertson’s Scotland (3-2 to Greece), while loanee Kostas Tsimikas featured for the winning side. Scotland was handed a lifeline as Denmark drew 2-2 with Belarus, setting up a winner-takes-all clash on Tuesday
