Riot erupts as young footballer stabbed to death in Argentina

Promising Argentinian footballer Milton Lautaro Sosa was stabbed to death after a party, sparking a violent riot where locals burned down the suspect’s home.

A young footballer was stabbed to death in the street following an alleged fight, according to reporting by the Daily Star, triggering a furious riot that saw the suspect’s home engulfed in flames.

Milton Lautaro Sosa, a 20-year-old rising star with Club Bartolome Mitre de Perez, was killed during an altercation after a birthday party in Pérez, near Rosario City, Argentina.

Police arrived at the scene around 2:30 am on Sunday (November 2) to find the midfielder lying severely wounded. Sosa was rushed to El Guri Municipal Hospital but tragically died shortly after arrival.

The Daily Star noted that the footballer was “described as a talented midfielder with a bright future.”

Hours after the killing, chaos erupted as enraged locals and supporters took to the streets. Rioters torched the suspect’s house and then clashed with police outside El Guri Health Centre, where Sosa’s body lay, smashing windows at the facility, according to local media reports.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and the knife believed to have been used in the attack was seized by police.

Law enforcement also detained a 39-year-old man—thought to be the suspect’s father—for “firing a .38-caliber pistol at the scene.” Officers recovered the weapon and spent casings as evidence.
