Rob Edwards named Wolves head coach

Rob Edwards is the new Wolves head coach on a three-and-a-half-year deal after Wolves paid £3m to Middlesbrough. He takes over from Vítor Pereira.

According to a report from Reuters, Wolverhampton Wanderers have confirmed the appointment of Rob Edwards as their new manager on a contract lasting three and a half years.

The Premier League club reached an agreement with Championship side Middlesbrough, where Edwards had only recently taken charge, before securing his services.

Edwards, aged 42, departs Middlesbrough after just a short spell despite the club sitting third in the Championship at the time.

He returns to Wolves, where he previously played more than 100 matches and served as youth coach, stepping into the role following the dismissal of Vítor Pereira.

Wolves had endured a poor start to the season, winless after ten Premier League games, prompting the managerial change.

In welcoming Edwards, chairman Jeff Shi said: “We need to refresh the whole club with a new coach’s philosophy, bringing his own identity and ideas, and we can build on that.”

Middlesbrough confirmed that Edwards had resigned his post and that a compensation deal, said to be around £3 million, had been settled, including for his assistant coach.

Edwards now faces the task of reversing Wolves’ fortunes and ensuring their top-flight status, beginning with his first match in charge on November 22.
