Rob Edwards set to be unveiled as Wolves manager

Middlesbrough have granted Rob Edwards permission to speak with Wolves about their vacant head coach position, paving the way for his imminent appointment at the Molineux.

According to reports, Rob Edwards is expected to be officially unveiled as the new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager “in the next couple of days” after the club parted ways with Portuguese gaffer Vitor Pereira on November 2.

The move follows Wolves’ abysmal start to the Premier League season, which included a ten-match winless run.

Edwards, who previously played for Wolves for over 100 games and held various coaching roles at Molineux, was swiftly identified as the outright favorite for the vacancy.

His former club, Championship side Middlesbrough, initially rejected an approach from Wolves, as Edwards had signed a three-year contract less than six months ago.

However, a breakthrough was reached, with Middlesbrough reluctantly confirming the departure. A spokesperson for Boro stated:

“Middlesbrough Football Club have, subject to the completion of an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers, given head coach Rob Edwards permission to speak to Wolves.

“Following discussions with Rob we were disappointed to learn that he wanted to speak with Wolves regarding their head coach vacancy. We have now agreed terms with Wolves, subject to completion of the relevant paperwork.”

Edwards brings Premier League experience, having led Luton Town to the top flight in 2023, and leaves Middlesbrough sitting second in the Championship table and mounting a strong promotion challenge this season.

His imminent arrival signals the start of a new era at Wolves, aimed at steering the club away from the relegation zone.
