Romeo Lavia injury update after Chelsea star hobbled off

Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia will miss at least a month due to a quad injury sustained in the Qarabag match, impacting upcoming games against Barcelona and Arsenal.

Chelsea’s injury-wheeled saga took another chapter when Roméo Lavia exited just three minutes into their 2-2 Champions League draw in Baku, according to a report from Daily Mail.

The Belgian midfielder, who only recently had begun to regain some rhythm, went down clutching his leg and was replaced early by Moïses Caicedo.

The 21-year-old’s Chelsea career — following a £58 million move from Southampton FC in 2023 — has been overshadowed by a string of injuries.

He made just one appearance in his debut season while hampered by ankle and hamstring problems, then managed 22 games in 2024 / 25 but again struggled with recurring issues.

This season, he has featured only seven times across all competitions and missed the first five Premier League fixtures due to a muscle issue. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca spoke post-match:

“We feel very ashamed, especially for him because he’s not able to be fit for a long, long period.” When asked if it was a hamstring, Maresca responded: “No, I think it’s a quad injury.”

With Lavia sidelined yet again, Chelsea’s midfield depth — already stretched by other absences — now faces fresh uncertainty.
