Pundit Roy Keane has launched a scathing attack on Thomas Tuchel’s defensive selections for the upcoming England friendlies, questioning the quality of the right-backs chosen over Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Roy Keane has criticized the inclusion of Djed Spence, Tino Livramento, Ezri Konsa, and Ben White in Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad.
With Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier retired, Keane expressed disbelief that Alexander-Arnold remains excluded.
“The strange thing is when people say about Trent and his defensive stuff, but he must look at the other defenders ahead of him and go: ‘Well they’re not great defensively either!’” Keane remarked.
The Manchester United legend suggested Alexander-Arnold’s absence from the 35-man group likely stems from non-footballing reasons or team personality fit.
He dismissed the versatility of the selected quartet, arguing that England lacks specialized defensive quality.
“Some of the lads ahead of him, they’re not even good defenders,” Keane concluded, specifically pointing out Ben White’s limited game time for Arsenal this season as a major concern.
