Sesko injury worsens Amorim’s striker and AFCON concerns

Manchester United faces a challenging January transfer window after Benjamin Sesko sustained a knee injury against Tottenham, prompting manager Ruben Amorim to express concern and consider midfield reinforcements over a new striker.

According to Mirror reporting, Manchester United is facing a potential dilemma in the January transfer window following a knee injury sustained by striker Benjamin Sesko during the 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

The Slovenian forward, who entered the match shortly before the hour mark, was forced off in the 85th minute, prompting immediate concern among the club hierarchy.

Speaking to reporters after the match, United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the injury involved the striker’s knee and expressed apprehension. He stated: “We have to check.

He had something in his knee, let’s see,” adding, “I have no idea. Because it’s the knee, we never know. I’m more concerned with an injury because it’s in the knee and I don’t know. We need Ben to be a better team.”

The injury compounds an already difficult situation for Amorim, who will also lose Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in January.

The manager acknowledged the impending challenges, saying: “We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben… Of course, we are going to have a problem there [with AFCON], but we already knew.”

The potential need for an attacking reinforcement is now a priority. However, Sky Sports’ Jonathan Northcroft noted that signing a new striker would be ‘expensive’ and suggested that strengthening the midfield, a long-standing substandard area for the club, may be ‘more pressing.’

Northcroft added that Amorim, when pressed on Sesko’s injury as he left the press room, simply said, “I’m worried” due to the uncertainty surrounding knee issues. United is now assessing the severity of Sesko’s injury as they plot their January transfer strategy.
