Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has expressed difficulty identifying the root cause of the team’s persistent struggles on the road, according to a report from The Standard.
Amorim made the comments ahead of the Red Devils’ upcoming fixture against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
United’s away record contrasts sharply with their home form, where they have secured four wins in six league games at Old Trafford.
This season, however, they have managed just one away win, a “miraculous late win over their bitter rivals Liverpool.”
The coach admitted his side needs to improve on multiple fronts away from Manchester. He stated: “It is hard to point at one thing why we are not winning away.
There is a lot of issues that we are improving. Like I say, we have advantage in the away games, but we need to know how to finish the games in order to win.”
Amorim cited specific matches where control was lost, noting: “The same things that we need to do to show to the players why we lost control of Forest, why we lost control against Tottenham.
And if you look at those games, they were there to win. Sometimes a small detail can change everything.”
Reflecting on their recent 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Everton, United’s second loss at Old Trafford this term, Amorim criticized the team’s intensity.
“Then I felt this year when we play at home, the intensity is higher, and I felt in this game at home the intensity was not at the same level, so I think it is something that we need to work on,” he said, adding: “Everything that happened in that game, we should have won that game.”
He concluded by emphasizing the team’s urgent need for victories:
“We have to feel that urgency of winning games. We know what happens around the club if we do not win games… let’s focus on the next one.”
