Ruben Amorim is struggling to implement his 3-4-2-1 system due to a critical lack of quality and consistency from his wing-backs, a problem set to be exacerbated by the departure of Amad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Manchester United’s 3-4-2-1 formation under Ruben Amorim is reportedly being undermined by a lack of quality from the wing-backs, according to a report from the Manchester Evening News.
Though Diogo Dalot scored from an advanced position recently, the attacking threat is inconsistent.
Amorim conceded his wing-backs “are far from the best, and they know it,” while insisting they are improving in training.
The situation is set to worsen as Amad, considered United’s most attacking wing-back option, will depart for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this month.
His absence means Dalot and Patrick Dorgu will likely be the only available wing-backs, which is expected to reduce United’s wide threat and place a greater burden on players like Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha.
