CAF has issued a sobering warning to Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda after February 2026 inspections revealed that none of the proposed stadiums for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations currently meet tournament standards.
The joint “Pamoja” bid for AFCON 2027 is under intense pressure following a CAF report confirming that all proposed venues remain below Category 4 requirements.
In Kenya, flagship sites like Kasarani and Talanta Sports City require urgent, extensive redevelopment rather than simple upgrades.
Inspectors noted that the project remains in a “construction and corrective phase” with critical milestones, including pitch reconstruction and security installations, still outstanding.
Logistical and financial hurdles further complicate the three-nation effort. Kenya’s Sports Principal Secretary, Elijah Mwangi, admitted to Parliament that the government owes contractors billions, leading to reduced workforces at key sites.
CAF has set a decisive August 2026 inspection deadline for host nations to show “tangible progress.”
Failure to resolve funding challenges and implement a unified visa framework could jeopardize East Africa’s hosting ambitions.
