Following a recent loss, concerning statistics have emerged comparing the poor shot output of Chelsea striker Joao Pedro to that of his teammate, Marc Guiu.
Following Chelsea’s disappointing loss to Sunderland, scrutiny has intensified around the performance and output of the club’s attacking options, specifically João Pedro and young forward Marc Guiu.
Reporting by Chelsea News, referencing discussions from the London is Blue Podcast, highlighted what it termed “scary facts” regarding the strikers’ shooting volumes.
The analysis compared João Pedro’s contribution across his recent outings with Guiu’s performance in the Sunderland match alone.
The podcast noted a stark contrast in offensive activity, which raised questions about manager Enzo Maresca’s selection strategy, particularly after Maresca reportedly cited injury as the reason for Pedro’s poor form.
The key statistic drawing alarm was the Brazilian’s severe lack of shots on goal. “Guiu in less than 90 minutes got more shots off than Joao Pedro did in three full 90 minutes, an 84 minutes and a 74 minutes to get two shots,” the analysis pointed out.
While João Pedro is acknowledged for sometimes offering “nice stuff in link up,” the low shot output indicates a continuation of goal-scoring problems that affected him in the previous season.
Meanwhile, Guiu managed two shots in his 76 minutes against Sunderland despite having only ten touches overall, suggesting he was focused almost exclusively on goal.
The report concludes that while Guiu showed promise in directness, both striker options currently face issues with consistent goal-scoring output for the team.
