Seaman questioned Raya’s decision to catch rather than punch the ball during Sunderland’s 94th-minute equaliser.
Arsenal legend David Seaman has criticised goalkeeper David Raya for his role in Sunderland’s late equaliser during Saturday’s 2-2 Premier League draw at the Stadium of Light, according to METRO reporting.
Arsenal trailed 1-0 at halftime after Dan Ballard’s opener, but second-half goals from Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard turned the game around. Sunderland, however, equalised in stoppage time when Brian Brobbey acrobatically converted Ballard’s flick-on past the onrushing Raya.
“Whether Raya should come, I’d question that,” Seaman told Premier League Productions. “And the way he comes for the ball, he tries to catch it — is he aware of the guy [Brobbey] getting close? It’s a great finish by Brobbey but I would just question the decision of Raya, whether he should come and try to punch it, rather than try to catch it.”
Despite the draw, Arsenal remain seven points clear at the top of the Premier League. Seaman added, “This was a difficult game… Sunderland were well-organised, and they knew exactly what they needed to do.”
