Semenyo release clause sparks Liverpool, Spurs, City interest

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has a £65m release clause active in January, drawing interest from Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester City, who see him as a potential star or successor to key players.

Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo has a £65 million release clause active in January, a figure that is below the £70 million the Cherries previously demanded and which leaves the club “powerless” to prevent a mid-season departure, according to reliable journalist David Ornstein.

According to a report from Team Talk via The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Liverpool’s January transfer plans have received a significant boost following the revelation of Antoine Semenyo’s release clause.

The Bournemouth forward (25), who signed a new contract in July running until 2030, now has an exit clause formally set at £65 million.

This clause will become active in January and must be triggered by a “specific date” to allow the Cherries a few weeks to find a replacement.

Ornstein’s report details that Bournemouth “reluctantly accept they may be powerless to prevent Antoine Semenyo from leaving the club as soon as January,” despite their preference to keep the Ghana international until the end of the campaign.

The reported fee provides a clear discount from the price Bournemouth quoted last summer, when “Suitors were told during the previous market that the fee required to secure Semenyo was around £70million.”

Furthermore, the clause will reportedly drop to an even “lower price” in the summer transfer window.

Semenyo, who can operate across the front line and thrives in transition, has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2025/26 term, registering six goals and three assists while helping Andoni Iraola’s side to ninth in the Premier League table.

While Liverpool have been monitoring Semenyo, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have also been linked to the Ghanaian.

The new information regarding the fixed fee makes the parameters of a potential deal clearer than ever for interested clubs.
