A 40-year-old Napoli supporter was hospitalized Sunday after his wife allegedly stabbed him during a Serie A match against Atalanta.
The dispute began when the man shouted insults at the television following a controversial VAR decision that overturned a Napoli penalty.
His 35-year-old wife reportedly mistook the verbal abuse as being directed at her, leading to a violent physical confrontation at their home.
The situation escalated as the woman allegedly threw scissors and multiple kitchen knives at her husband, striking him once in the left side.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to contact police while his wife continued the attack. Authorities arrested the woman on charges of domestic violence and aggravated assault.
The man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the Ospedale del Mare.
