Former Premier League goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has revealed he’s battling aggressive prostate cancer. The 56-year-old ex-Newcastle and West Ham player completed radiation therapy after the cancer spread to his pelvic bone. He urges men of Caribbean heritage to get tested, stating: “Testing saves lives. It saved mine.”
Hislop’s diagnosis began 18 months ago with an elevated PSA test, leading to a radical prostatectomy. Despite surgery, his PSA levels rose again. He shared his journey to raise awareness, highlighting that prostate cancer disproportionately affects men of Black African or Caribbean ancestry.
