Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen revealed a delay in securing Harry Amass’s loan extension from Manchester United for the rest of the season.
The England youth international arrived at the club on deadline day of the summer window and has since starred down the Owls’ left side, playing every minute of their Championship campaign since his debut in August.
Amass has been a success in his loan spell, registering his first assist in senior football in Saturday’s defeat to Preston North End and scoring his first senior goal last month at Southampton. His current contract with the Premier League giants is set to expire in 2027.
Ahead of this weekend’s trip to Blackburn Rovers, the Danish coach expressed his desire for the deal to be made but suggested that contract discussions at Old Trafford needed to be finalized first.
“There is contact between Sheffield Wednesday and Man United and I hope in the next one or two weeks we can come closer to something here,” Pedersen said, before explaining the reason for the delay.
“I think there is something between Manchester United and Harry that they have to find out before we can make the next step. I hope it will be found out in the short term. I think we will find a solution – I really hope.”
Amass himself confirmed he is leaving the January decision to the clubs, stating:
“At the moment I haven’t really thought to much about it even though it is coming. I just want to play in the games and a lot of stuff has happened higher.
We’re waiting for things to get straightened out and we’ll sort it out closer to the time. But at the moment I’m just enjoying playing here.”
