Sir Alex Ferguson has accepted a new formal role as a global ambassador for Manchester United just months after his previous contract was ended by the club’s new owners.
Manchester United have confirmed that legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson will return to a formal role at the club.
Following discussions with the INEOS leadership team, Ferguson has been appointed as a global ambassador, a position designed to leverage his unparalleled experience and stature.
This move comes after his previous multi-million-pound ambassadorial contract was terminated earlier this season as part of a wider cost-cutting initiative led by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
The appointment marks a significant reconciliation between the club’s current hierarchy and its most successful manager.
While the previous decision to end his contract sparked debate among supporters, the new arrangement focuses on a more symbolic and strategic partnership.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has remained respectful of Ferguson’s legacy throughout the transition, previously stating: “He is a huge part of Manchester United’s history and he always will be.”
Ferguson’s return is expected to provide a morale boost to the club as they navigate a period of structural change under manager Ruben Amorim.
The Scotsman will represent the Red Devils at major international events and maintain his presence in the directors’ box at Old Trafford.
Reflecting on the importance of maintaining club traditions, a club source noted: “Sir Alex has a unique connection to the fans and the soul of this football club.”
