Michael Owen supports Jim Ratcliffe’s public stance on Man Utd boss

Sir Jim Ratcliffe publicly supported manager Ruben Amorim, despite a challenging first year, drawing praise from Michael Owen for his commitment to a three-year assessment period.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly affirmed his support for manager Ruben Amorim, insisting the Portuguese coach will be afforded the necessary time to prove his worth at Old Trafford, according to MIRROR reporting.

Amorim has endured a challenging first year, with mounting pressure that reportedly led him to offer his resignation twice to the club hierarchy.

Despite this turbulent period, Ratcliffe, who controls football operations, stressed that a long-term assessment is required, drawing a parallel with Arsenal’s current manager.

While acknowledging that Amorim “has not had the best of seasons,” Ratcliffe clarified his position, stating: “Amorim is a good guy. I would say Ruben needs to demonstrate that he’s a great coach over three years.

That’s where I would be – three years – because football is not overnight. Look at Mikel Arteta at Arsenal, he had a miserable time the first couple of years.”

The English businessman also firmly ruled out any potential interference from the Glazer family regarding the manager’s position, declaring: “It’s not going to happen.”

Former United striker Michael Owen supported Ratcliffe’s approach, arguing that public backing is standard practice.

Owen said: “I don’t know what people expect Sir Jim Ratcliffe to say about Ruben Amorim… Of course, he’s going to back his manager publicly – that’s what you do. He can’t exactly say: ‘He’s got three games to save his job.'”

Owen went on to back the manager as a long-term prospect, adding: “Ruben Amorim can be the man to lead Manchester United for years to come.”
