Arsenal’s 4-0 Champions League victory over Atlético Madrid on Tuesday has led to bold predictions from the Spanish press, with one outlet suggesting Mikel Arteta’s side is capable of winning the Premier League.
After a goalless first half, the Gunners exploded into action, with Viktor Gyökeres netting a brace, ending a seven-game drought, alongside goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhães.
Spanish outlet El Dia de La Rioja rubbished ‘defensive’ labels, writing: “Little or nothing remains of that timid Arsenal… This is a dominant, effective Arsenal, and it’s unfair to label them defensive.”
The paper added: “Arsenal displayed the makings of a great team, a squad capable of winning the Premier League and competing again for the ‘Big Ears’…”
Arteta praised Gyökeres’s return to form, stating: “I think he deserved it… he was rewarded with two goals, and the biggest smile on his face.” The win maintains Arsenal’s perfect UCL start without conceding a goal.
