Spanish players union opposes LaLiga Miami game

The Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) has formally opposed the planned LaLiga match between Villarreal and Barcelona in Miami, saying players haven’t been given enough information about it.

AFE president David Aganzo stressed the need for transparency and respect: “We wanted some transparency and respect towards the players.”

He also questioned whether the collective bargaining agreement is being honoured, and raised concerns about working conditions, travel logistics, and competitive fairness.

Aganzo added: “I can’t guarantee it will go ahead. It’s the players that play these games … the conditions have to as well.”

LaLiga responded that it was unable to attend a proposed meeting but offered three alternate dates. Meanwhile, critics argue the relocation gives Barcelona an undue advantage, since playing in a neutral overseas stadium blurs the line between home and away fixtures.
