Burkina Faso confirmed their place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16 after a disciplined 2-0 victory over Sudan at the Mohamed V Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite early pressure from the Falcons of Jediane, the Stallions took the lead in the 15th minute when Lassina Traoré capitalized on a clinical transitional move.
Sudan had a golden opportunity to level the scores shortly after, but Al Gozoli Nooh missed a 23rd-minute penalty.
The second half was characterized by Burkina Faso’s dominance on the ball, as they effectively stifled Sudan’s attempts to mount a comeback.
The Stallions’ control eventually paid off in the 85th minute when Arsene Kouassi doubled the advantage with a precise left-footed finish following a swift team move into the box.
The result ensured Burkina Faso finished second in Group E, while Sudan also progressed to the knockout phase as one of the best third-placed teams.
The match concluded with both nations celebrating qualification despite the one-sided scoreline. Burkina Faso’s clinical efficiency in front of goal proved the difference, while Sudan was left to rue their missed chances from the spot.
The Stallions doubled their advantage five minutes from time as Arsene Kouassi scored with a left-footed shot from the middle of the area after making their way into the Sudan box in swift fashion.
