The Super Eagles defeated Gabon 4–1 after extra time on Thursday to advance to the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African Play-offs in Rabat, Morocco.
The tense encounter tested Nigeria’s composure, but the team showed character and attacking quality to see off a determined Gabonese side. Sevilla striker Akor Adams broke the deadlock in the 78th minute before Mario Lemina equalised for Gabon late on to force extra time.
Chidera Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 97th minute with a well-placed finish, and Victor Osimhen then delivered a clinical brace in the 102nd and 110th minutes to seal the win.
The result moves Nigeria a step closer to qualification for the 2026 World Cup in North America. The Super Eagles will face the winner between Cameroon and DR Congo in the play-off final on Sunday, November 16.
