Despite a standout performance from goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in a challenging El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.
FC Barcelona Player Ratings vs. Real Madrid (El Clásico)
Wojciech Szczesny (Rating: 7)
The goalkeeper delivered a commendable display, highlighted by several excellent reaction stops in the first half and a brilliant intervention to deny Kylian Mbappé from the penalty spot. He was given little chance to save either of the two goals that beat him.
Jules Koundé (Rating: 4)
A challenging evening for the defender, who was repeatedly overwhelmed by Vinícius Júnior’s pace and trickery on the flank. He offered minimal support or offensive outlet to the winger positioned ahead of him.
Pau Cubarsí (Rating: 5)
The center-back found himself frequently exposed and was forced to make a few important clearances and tackles. While he showed glimpses of composure, the defensive unit’s vulnerability left him scrambling for cover as the team pushed forward late in the game.
Alejandro Balde (Rating: 5)
The full-back demonstrated his customary desire to join the attack with positive forward runs. However, his teammates struggled to pick him out, limiting his impact in the final third. He might be deemed culpable for not preventing the opposition’s second goal.
Frenkie de Jong (Rating: 4)
A very poor showing by the typically influential midfielder, who failed to control the tempo or dictate play. His ball distribution was uncharacteristically inaccurate, and he left the defensive flank unprotected, contributing to the pressure faced by the back line.
Pedri (Rating: 6)
The young midfielder maintained a decent level of intensity in the engine room and was involved in the pivotal sequence that led to Barcelona scoring. His work rate was solid, but his time on the pitch was cut short after receiving a dismissal.
Fermín López (Rating: 6)
He will be remembered for scoring the team’s only goal, a moment of quality that kept Barcelona in the match. Yet, outside of finding the back of the net, his involvement and overall influence on the attack were quite limited.
Lamine Yamal (Rating: 3)
The young attacker was far from his best form, with nearly every attempt at dribbling or passing failing to connect. He wasted opportunities with wayward long-range efforts and struggled immensely to breach the opposing left-back.
Ferran Torres (Rating: 4)
The forward had an anonymous performance, lacking the incisiveness needed to break down a tight defense. He was largely ineffective in pressuring the opponent and failed to leave any lasting impression on the match.
