Thierry Henry, speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, firmly supported referee Paul Tierney’s decision to award AFC Bournemouth a penalty following a VAR intervention during their clash with Brighton.
Despite Tierney initially booking Amine Adli for simulation, the decision was overturned after a review showed keeper Bart Verbruggen making contact with the attacker, leading Marcus Tavernier to convert from the spot.
Assessing the incident, Henry noted that while slow-motion replays can often enhance contact, the foul was undeniable, stating, “We can talk about it, we can debate it, it is a penalty,” and adding,
“In the modern days, as we all know, you’re looking at a situation in slow motion it’s going to be given and it was given… Bottom line, you can’t say you didn’t touch him.”
