Texas billionaire Tom Hicks, former co-owner of Liverpool FC, died on Saturday in Dallas at the age of 79, according to a statement from Hicks Holdings LLC.
Hicks, a prominent sports figure, acquired a 50 per cent stake in Liverpool in 2007, a period often remembered for financial and management turmoil until the club’s eventual sale.
Beyond football, Hicks also owned the NHL’s Dallas Stars from 1995 to 2011, guiding them to a Stanley Cup in 1999, and Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers.
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones praised his late friend, stating: “Tom was a close friend and a great partner.
He dreamed big and watching him bring the Stanley Cup here to Dallas was something that I will always cherish.”
