Toni Kroos has questioned Barcelona’s Champions League hopes under Hansi Flick, warning that their possession-heavy, high-risk football could expose their weaknesses in big matches.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has expressed doubts about Barcelona’s Champions League prospects under Hansi Flick, warning that the team’s attractive but risky football could backfire.
Speaking on his Einfach mal Luppen podcast, Kroos praised Barça’s style but said their high-risk approach and fading intensity in late stages make them vulnerable. “Barcelona have one of the most appealing styles in Europe, but they take too many risks,” he said, citing defeats to PSG and Sevilla. He added that when players like Pedri, Lamine Yamal, or Raphinha have off days, any opponent can punish them.
Kroos, who retired after Euro 2024, also noted that the team’s fatigue and lack of tactical flexibility could hurt them again in knockout rounds. His comments come as Flick faces pressure following consecutive losses and injury troubles, with Barcelona’s thin squad testing his adaptability.
