President Trump threatened to move 2026 World Cup games from U.S. cities he considers unsafe.
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned he could urge FIFA to relocate matches from host cities he deems unsafe ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Speaking at a White House event with Argentine President Javier Milei, Trump said, “If somebody is doing a bad job and I feel there are unsafe conditions, I would call [Gianni Infantino], the head of FIFA. And I would say, ‘Let’s move it to another location.’ And he would do that.”
The 79-year-old singled out Boston, claiming the city had been “taken over” by unrest and criticizing its mayor, Michelle Wu, as “radical left” though “intelligent.” Trump added he would take similar action if Los Angeles was not “prepared properly” for the 2028 Olympics.
England became the first European nation to qualify for the 2026 tournament after a 5-0 win over Latvia in Riga on Tuesday.
