Tyler Adams sidelined for months following MCL tear at Old Trafford

Bournemouth and USMNT midfielder Tyler Adams is expected to be out for up to three months after suffering a torn MCL during a match against Manchester United.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has confirmed that Tyler Adams will be sidelined for several months after tearing his medial collateral ligament (MCL).

The injury occurred during the early stages of the Cherries’ dramatic 4-4 draw against Manchester United on Monday.

Adams was forced off just five minutes into the match following a challenge on Matheus Cunha. “Tyler is injured. He has torn his MCL. So he will be out, definitely out for some time,” Iraola stated.

The loss of the United States international is a significant setback for Bournemouth, where Adams has been a vital presence this season.

Initial assessments on the pitch were concerning, and subsequent scans have validated the fears of the medical staff. Iraola noted the impact on the squad’s depth, explaining, “Normally two, three months.

Two months… optimistic, pessimistic… three, something like this. So, yes, it’s a big blow. It’s a big blow because it’s an important player for us.”

Beyond the Premier League, the injury creates a major concern for the U.S. Men’s National Team ahead of their 2026 World Cup preparations.

While Adams is expected to return before the tournament begins in June, his absence disrupts critical tactical planning under Mauricio Pochettino.

Reflecting on the moment of the injury, Iraola added, “But straight away, when you see the mechanism, the action, we were feeling that there could be something there.”
