Manuel Ugarte has reaffirmed Manchester United’s unwavering support for manager Ruben Amorim despite their disappointing 15th-place finish last season. Ugarte, who played under Amorim at Sporting CP, highlights the team’s commitment and the need for patience following significant changes. He emphasizes the squad’s belief in Amorim’s vision, despite facing a tough start to the 2025-26 season with fixtures against Arsenal, Fulham, and Manchester City.
Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has issued a strong vote of confidence in manager Ruben Amorim, insisting the squad remains fully behind him despite a challenging 2024-25 season. Amorim took the reins from Erik ten Hag mid-season following a disappointing start to the campaign that ultimately saw United finish a dismal 15th in the Premier League, their worst ever league finish, and end their Europa League hopes with defeat against Tottenham.
Despite the upheaval and the poor results, Ugarte, who also played under Amorim at Sporting CP, believes patience is key. "We have to improve things," he stated. "We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants and that is very important. Last year we made some changes, we changed our coach, we changed our formation. You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. Sometimes the connections take time to get to know each other. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important."
Ugarte's contribution last season shouldn't be overlooked. Starting 22 of his 29 league appearances, he directly contributed to three goals (one goal, two assists) and boasted an impressive 63.6% tackle success rate. His unwavering support for Amorim underlines the squad's collective commitment to turning things around.
The Red Devils face a stern test at the start of the 2025-26 season, beginning with a daunting home clash against Arsenal, followed by away fixtures against Fulham and Manchester City. This challenging opening run provides a crucial early indication of whether United can respond to last season's struggles under Amorim's leadership and Ugarte's belief in him.
