Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has demanded a highly disciplined approach from his side ahead of their UEFA Europa League clash against Dutch debutants Go Ahead Eagles. Villa travel to Deventer aiming to extend their 100% winning start in the competition.
Emery, whose side is on a five-match winning streak across all competitions, warned that European away games are inherently difficult, especially against a highly motivated home side like Go Ahead Eagles.
“To get a good result away, it’s necessary to play focused, to play disciplined, to play seriously, and then to play trying to impose our game plan and tactical structure against the opponent,” Emery stated.
“Tomorrow is going to be the same. They are playing with their supporters. They won one match, they have three points and for them it was very important to get points. Playing at home, they’re going to give their best. They’re going to be so, so motivated for this match.”
The Spaniard acknowledged the team’s improvement since August but insisted there is still room to grow: “We’re in October and we need to improve in the Premier League, clearly.
We have to try to keep our strong way in the Europa League.” Lucas Digne, Youri Tielemans, and Ross Barkley (ineligible) are unavailable for the match.
