Bayern Munich faces a goalkeeping crisis with all four senior shot-stoppers injured, potentially forcing the club to field 16-year-old Leonard Prescott in Wednesday’s Champions League match against Atalanta.
MUNICH β Bayern Munich’s goalkeeping department has been decimated by injuries, leaving the club with no fit senior shot-stopper ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Atalanta. Sven Ulreich became the latest casualty, sustaining a muscle tear in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen, joining Manuel Neuer (calf), Jonas Urbig (concussion), and Leon Klanac (muscular injury) on the sidelines.
“Unbelievable situation at Bayern,”Β German media reported. Ulreich’s injury, confirmed in a club release, came after Urbig suffered a concussion during the first leg against Atalanta. Klanac, the U19 goalkeeper, is also unavailable with what Bild lists as a thigh injury and Transfermarkt reports as a hamstring issue.
As things stand, Bayern is set to call up 16-year-old U19 backup Leonard Prescott. The 1.96m tall teenager would be thrust into Champions League action as the club navigates a “less than ideal” scenario during the season’s critical stretch run, with domestic and European ambitions hanging in the balance.
